Meet Gunner!
Meet Gunner, a 4 year old male Boxer currently in Running Springs. He’s neutered, weighs about 63 pounds, and still needs to be microchipped and have his vaccinations updated. Gunner hasn’t had the easiest life, he comes from a background of abuse, neglect, and malnourishment. He was abandoned to his current owner by their son’s ex-girlfriend, and despite their efforts over the past 9 months, he hasn’t adjusted well to a home with 4 dogs and 7 cats.
Gunner generally gets along with the Akita and two Pit Bulls he lives with, but his high-energy play style, barking, and his eye contact trigger can sometimes cause tension amongst the pack. He would likely thrive as an only dog. Gunner absolutely adores cats and would do well in a home with feline companions. He can be a bit timid with new adults and prefers a slow, gentle approach to build trust. On walks, he’s been wonderful with kids, welcoming their pets and even wanting to join in their fun.
Gunner is housebroken, crate trained, and walks well on a leash. He knows basic commands and is learning to use the indoor Weasy potty system. He’s happiest cuddling in bed with his humans at night but will sleep up to 10 hours in his crate if needed.
His previous malnourishment issues have been resolved, and he now enjoys a fresh diet of various meats (like turkey, venison, lamb, and goat) mixed with eggs, steamed veggies, fruit (usually blueberries), and yogurt, served over Gentle Giants kibble with broth or water for breakfast and dinner. He also gets a mid-morning snuffle time, a frozen treat in the afternoon, and walks 1.5 to 3 miles per day based on his energy level. His off-leash recall is nearly perfect, except when a squirrel shows up!
Gunner may experience some anxiety during transitions, which can lead to temporary diarrhea, anxious barking, or reduced eating, but these symptoms resolve quickly with consistency. Gunner is a resilient and remarkable dog who truly deserves to live his best life. We are seeking a stable and committed foster or adopter to give him the loving home he needs.
